The Amex Platinum's Lifestyle Credits, Honestly Reviewed: lululemon, Equinox, Oura, Walmart+, Uber One
The Amex Platinum's Lifestyle Credits, Honestly Reviewed: lululemon, Equinox, Oura, Walmart+, Uber One
The September 2025 refresh turned the Amex Platinum into a lifestyle card wearing a travel card's clothes. Five of its credits have nothing to do with travel: lululemon, Equinox, Oura Ring, Walmart+, and Uber One. Together they're worth over $1,000 a year on paper.
Here's the honest review of each one, with the only question that matters: would you spend this money anyway?
How does the Amex Platinum lululemon credit work?
The Amex Platinum includes a $300/year lululemon credit ($75 every 3 months, no rollover) for U.S. lululemon stores (not outlets) and lululemon.com. Enrollment is required.
Honest review: If you wear lululemon, this is $300 of clothes you were buying anyway — one item per quarter covers it. If you don't, it's $0. There is no version of this where you "try" lululemon to use the credit and come out ahead; $75 of leggings you didn't want is not savings.
How to use it: Enroll, buy one thing per quarter. Set a calendar reminder for the last week of March, June, September, and December — quarterly credits are the ones everyone forgets in the final week.
How does the Amex Platinum Equinox credit work?
The Amex Platinum includes a $300/year Equinox credit covering select Equinox club memberships or an Equinox+ app subscription, subject to auto-renewal. It is an annual credit on the calendar year, and enrollment is required.
Honest review: An Equinox club membership costs far more than $300 a year — this credit is a discount on something expensive, not a freebie. The Equinox+ app subscription is the realistic play for most people, and even then: don't buy a fitness subscription to "use" a credit. If you already pay for Equinox, it's $300 back in your pocket. If you don't, it's $0.
How to use it: Enroll, put the membership or subscription on the Platinum.
How does the Amex Platinum Oura Ring credit work?
The Amex Platinum includes a $200/year Oura Ring credit for hardware purchases at ouraring.com. It is an annual credit on the calendar year, and enrollment is required.
Honest review: An Oura Ring costs $299–$549 depending on the model, plus there's a monthly membership for the full app experience (which the credit does not cover). The $200 credit makes the hardware cheaper; it doesn't make it free. If you've been wanting an Oura Ring, this is a genuine $200 discount. If you haven't, it's $0 — and the ring comes with an ongoing subscription cost the credit will never touch.
How to use it: Enroll, buy the ring at ouraring.com with the Platinum. One purchase a year maxes it.
How does the Amex Platinum Walmart+ credit work?
The Amex Platinum includes a ~$155/year Walmart+ credit ($12.95 plus tax per month in statement credits) covering a monthly Walmart+ membership.
Honest review: Walmart+ gets you free delivery from Walmart, fuel discounts, and a Paramount+ subscription bundled in. If you already shop at Walmart regularly — especially for groceries — this is $155 back on something useful. If you don't shop at Walmart, a free membership to a store you don't visit is worth nothing.
How to use it: Sign up for the monthly Walmart+ membership with the Platinum as payment. The credit posts monthly.
How does the Amex Platinum Uber One credit work?
The Amex Platinum includes a $120/year Uber One credit covering an auto-renewing Uber One membership ($9.99/month or $96/year) paid with the card.
Honest review: Uber One pays for itself if you order delivery or take rides more than a couple times a month — $0 delivery fees and member pricing add up fast. The credit covers the membership completely. But the same rule applies: if you don't use Uber, don't subscribe to use the credit.
How to use it: Subscribe to Uber One with the Platinum as the payment method.
How much are the Platinum lifestyle credits really worth?
The five lifestyle credits total $1,075 a year on paper — but they're worth $1,075 to exactly the right person and $0 to exactly the wrong one. Most people land somewhere in between — maybe $400–$500 of genuine value. When you're deciding whether the Platinum's $895 fee makes sense, add up only the ones where you'd spend the money anyway. Everything else is marketing.
| Credit | If you already buy there | If you don't |
|---|---|---|
| lululemon ($300) | $300 | $0 |
| Equinox ($300) | $300 | $0 |
| Oura ($200) | $200 | $0 |
| Walmart+ ($155) | $155 | $0 |
| Uber One ($120) | $120 | $0 |
| Total | $1,075 | $0 |
What are the biggest Platinum lifestyle credit traps?
The four biggest traps: all five require enrollment (lululemon, Equinox, and Oura confirmed — check Uber One and Walmart+ in your account), quarterly credits punish forgetfulness (the $75 lululemon credit is the worst offender), you shouldn't buy things to "use" credits, and the Oura credit doesn't cover the Oura membership.
- All five require enrollment (lululemon, Equinox, Oura confirmed; check Uber One and Walmart+ in your account). Nothing works until you activate it.
- Quarterly credits punish forgetfulness. The $75 lululemon credit is the worst offender — four deadlines a year, each one silent.
- Don't buy things to "use" credits. A $300 Equinox credit doesn't make a gym membership free. A $200 Oura credit doesn't make a smart ring free. Credits reduce the cost of things you want; they don't create value out of things you don't.
- The Oura credit doesn't cover the Oura membership. The ring needs a monthly subscription for full features. Factor that in.
How PerkWatch fits
Five credits, three different cycle lengths (monthly, quarterly, annual), five enrollment steps. The lifestyle credits are the ones most likely to go half-used — a quarter of lululemon here, a forgotten Walmart+ month there. PerkWatch gives each one a progress tracker with its own countdown, and emails you 7 days and 1 day before a cycle expires with money unspent. Free for one card, $2.99/month or $29/year for unlimited.
