Amex Platinum Benefits: How to Actually Use $3,500 in Credits on an $895 Fee
Amex Platinum Benefits: How to Actually Use $3,500 in Credits on an $895 Fee
The Amex Platinum charges $895 a year. That's the most honest starting point there is: if you don't use the credits, it's an $895 piece of metal.
But the credits are real. Add them up and Amex advertises over $3,500 in annual statement-credit value. The catch — and it's a big one — is that the money is scattered across monthly, quarterly, semi-annual, and annual cycles, and almost every credit requires you to enroll first. Miss a month, and that month's money is gone forever. It doesn't roll over.
This is the full walkthrough: every recurring credit, how each cycle works, and the traps that eat people's money.
What are the Amex Platinum's biggest credits?
The Amex Platinum's biggest credits are the $600 hotel credit, the $400 Resy credit, the $300 digital entertainment credit, the $300 lululemon credit, and the $300 Equinox credit. Together they're worth up to $1,900 a year.
How much is the Amex Platinum hotel credit worth per year?
The Amex Platinum hotel credit is worth up to $600 per year, paid as $300 per half-year for prepaid bookings through Amex Travel. The hotel credit resets on January 1 and July 1 each year — not on the card anniversary.
Book prepaid stays through Amex Travel at Fine Hotels + Resorts or The Hotel Collection (2-night minimum for THC) and get up to $300 back per half-year.
How to use it: Plan one qualifying hotel stay per half-year. Book through Amex Travel, pay with the Platinum. If you only travel once a year, book a two-night stay and you'll still leave $300 on the table — that's the trap.
How does the Amex Platinum Resy credit work?
The Amex Platinum Resy credit is worth up to $400 per year, paid as $100 per quarter. It covers eligible U.S. Resy restaurant purchases paid with the card, and no reservation is required — takeout counts if the restaurant is in Resy's network. Enrollment is required before the credit works.
Pay at eligible U.S. Resy restaurants with your Platinum and get up to $100 back per quarter.
How to use it: Enroll first (Amex account → Benefits). Then just eat. One nice dinner a quarter covers it.
What does the Amex Platinum digital entertainment credit cover?
The Amex Platinum digital entertainment credit is worth up to $300 per year, paid as $25 per month with no rollover — unused months don't come back. It covers Disney+, Hulu, ESPN+, Peacock, Paramount+, YouTube Premium/YouTube TV, the NYT, and the WSJ, including select bundles.
How to use it: Put one eligible subscription on the card and set it to auto-pay. This one runs itself once it's set up — the rare credit that does.
How much is the Amex Platinum lululemon credit per quarter?
The Amex Platinum lululemon credit is worth up to $300 per year, paid as $75 per quarter. It works at U.S. lululemon stores (excluding outlets) and lululemon.com. Enrollment is required.
How to use it: Enroll, then buy one thing per quarter. If you don't wear lululemon, this credit is worth $0 to you — be honest about that in your math.
How much is the Amex Platinum Equinox credit?
The Amex Platinum Equinox credit is worth up to $300 per year. It covers select Equinox club memberships or an Equinox+ app subscription (subject to auto-renewal). Enrollment is required.
How to use it: Enroll and put the membership on the card. If you already pay for Equinox, this is free money. If you don't, don't buy a gym membership to "save" money.
What monthly credits does the Amex Platinum have?
The Amex Platinum's monthly credits are $15 in Uber Cash each month (plus a $20 bonus in December), a $120 annual Uber One credit, and a Walmart+ credit worth about $155 per year paid as $12.95 per month.
How much Uber Cash does the Amex Platinum give each month?
The Amex Platinum gives $15 in Uber Cash each month, plus a $20 bonus in December, for a total of $200 per year. It works for U.S. Uber rides and Uber Eats orders. You must add the Platinum to your Uber account first.
How to use it: Add the card once. The cash lands automatically — then actually spend it before month-end. Unused Uber Cash expires.
How much is the Amex Platinum Uber One credit worth?
The Amex Platinum Uber One credit is worth $120 per year. It covers an auto-renewing Uber One membership ($9.99/month or $96/year) paid with the card.
How much is the Amex Platinum Walmart+ credit?
The Amex Platinum Walmart+ credit covers a monthly Walmart+ membership at $12.95 per month plus tax — worth about $155 per year. Enrollment is required.
What annual credits does the Amex Platinum have?
The Amex Platinum's annual credits are a $200 airline incidental credit, a $200 Oura Ring credit, and a $219 CLEAR+ credit.
How much is the Amex Platinum airline fee credit?
The Amex Platinum airline incidental credit is worth $200 per calendar year. It covers baggage fees, seat upgrades, lounge day passes, and other incidentals — not plane tickets. You must select one qualifying airline before using it, and you can only change the selection once a year (usually in January).
How to use it: Select your airline in January. Then route every bag fee and seat upgrade through the card. People miss this one by forgetting to select the airline at all.
How much is the Amex Platinum Oura Ring credit?
The Amex Platinum Oura Ring credit is worth $200 per calendar year for hardware purchases at ouraring.com. Enrollment is required.
Does the Amex Platinum cover CLEAR+?
Yes. The Amex Platinum includes a $219 annual CLEAR+ credit that covers a CLEAR+ membership. This one is automatic — no enrollment needed.
Is the Amex Platinum worth the $895 annual fee?
The Amex Platinum is worth the $895 annual fee only if you use at least $895 of its credits: a heavy user clears $2,500+, while a casual user might clear only $1,200 — and pay $895 for the privilege. Run your own numbers before the fee hits.
Here's what a realistic person — not a points blogger — might actually use:
| Credit | Realistic use |
|---|---|
| Hotel ($600) | $300 — one trip a year |
| Resy ($400) | $400 — you eat out anyway |
| Digital entertainment ($300) | $300 — set and forget |
| lululemon ($300) | $0–$300 — depends on you |
| Equinox ($300) | $0 or $300 |
| Airline ($200) | $200 — bag fees happen |
| Uber Cash ($200) | $200 — easy |
| Uber One ($120) | $120 — if you order delivery |
| Walmart+ ($155) | $0–$155 |
| Oura ($200) | $0–$200 |
| CLEAR+ ($219) | $219 — automatic |
That's the whole game with this card: the fee is fixed, the credits are scattered, and the difference between profit and loss is whether you track the cycles.
What are the biggest Amex Platinum credit traps?
The biggest Amex Platinum traps are missing enrollment (nearly every credit requires it), letting monthly and quarterly credits expire with no rollover, the hotel credit's January 1 and July 1 reset dates, and the airline credit's selected-airline requirement.
- Almost everything requires enrollment. The credits don't work until you activate them in your Amex account. Do this on day one.
- Monthly and quarterly credits don't roll over. Miss March's $25 entertainment credit and it's gone.
- The hotel credit resets on January 1 and July 1 each year. Not your anniversary. Mark both dates.
- The airline credit needs a selected airline. Pick it in January or the credit sits dead.
- Don't count credits for things you'd never buy. A $300 lululemon credit is worth $0 if you don't shop there.
How does PerkWatch track Amex Platinum credits?
PerkWatch gives each of the Amex Platinum's eleven credits its own progress tracker with a countdown, and sends an email 7 days and 1 day before a monthly or quarterly credit expires unused. This card is exactly what the trackers are for — eleven credits, four different cycle lengths, and enrollment steps on nearly all of them. Free for one card, $2.99/month or $29/year for unlimited.
Benefit details verified October 3, 2026 against current issuer and points-publication sources. Card benefits change — Amex ran a major refresh in September 2025 — so confirm anything before you apply. Two notes: some older sources list a $100 Saks credit, but it no longer appears on Amex's Platinum page, so we've left it out. A Global Entry/TSA PreCheck credit is widely reported for this card but isn't prominently listed by Amex — check your account.
