Rideshare Credits: The Monthly Money That's Easy to Get — If You Actually Ride

Rideshare Credits: The Monthly Money That's Easy to Get — If You Actually Ride

Four cards in the catalog hand you monthly rideshare money. The mechanics are simple, the amounts are small, and that's exactly why they go unclaimed: $10 or $15 a month feels like nothing, so nobody sets up the one-time link that makes it work. Then December arrives and you've left $120–$200 on the table.

Here's every rideshare credit, card by card, with the honest question attached to each one: do you ride enough for this to matter?

How does the Amex Platinum Uber Cash credit work?

The Amex Platinum includes $200/year in Uber Cash: $15 lands in your Uber account each month, plus a $20 bonus in December. It works for rides and Uber Eats orders in the U.S. You must add the Platinum as a payment method in your Uber account first — enrollment is required.

How to use it: Add the card once. Then spend the cash before month-end. Unused Uber Cash expires — it does not stack, it does not roll over.

Be honest: if you take even one Uber or order one delivery a month, this is $200 of free money. If you drive everywhere and cook every meal, it's $0. Count it accordingly.

How does the Amex Platinum Uber One credit work?

The Amex Platinum includes a $120/year Uber One credit that covers an auto-renewing Uber One membership paid with the card ($9.99/month or $96/year). Uber One gets you $0 delivery fees and discounts on eligible orders.

How to use it: Sign up for Uber One with the Platinum as the payment method. The statement credit covers it.

Be honest: this only has value if you'd pay for Uber One anyway. Don't subscribe to a membership to "use" a credit — that's spending money to save money.

How does the Amex Gold Uber Cash credit work?

The Amex Gold includes $120/year in Uber Cash: $10 a month for U.S. rides and Uber Eats — the same deal as the Platinum's version, smaller amount. Add the Gold to your Uber account — enrollment is required.

How to use it: Add the card once, spend $10 a month. One Eats order covers it.

How does the Sapphire Reserve Lyft credit work?

The Sapphire Reserve includes a $120/year Lyft credit ($10 a month in in-app Lyft credit — not a statement credit, it appears inside the Lyft app). Link the Reserve in the Lyft app — enrollment is required. This one has an end date: September 30, 2027. After that, it's gone unless Chase renews it.

How to use it: Link the card once. The $10 appears monthly; spend it on a ride before the month flips.

Be honest: Lyft-only. If your city is an Uber town, or you don't rideshare at all, this credit is decorative.

How much are rideshare credits really worth?

Rideshare credits are the most binary benefits in the business: they're worth their full face value to people who ride, and exactly zero to people who don't. There's no middle ground, no "partial use" trick. When you're doing the fee math on any of these cards, put the full amount in or cross the whole line out. Nothing in between.

Card Credit A rider's value A non-rider's value
Amex Platinum $200 Uber Cash + $120 Uber One $320 $0
Amex Gold $120 Uber Cash $120 $0
Sapphire Reserve $120 Lyft $120 $0

What are the biggest rideshare credit traps?

The four biggest traps: every one of these needs a one-time link (until you do, the credits don't exist), monthly money expires monthly (January's $15 is gone on February 1), the Lyft credit dies on September 30, 2027, and Uber Cash is app credit — not a statement credit — so you have to open Uber and spend it there.

  1. Every one of these needs a one-time link. Add the card to Uber, sign up for Uber One with the card, link the card in Lyft. Until you do, the credits don't exist.
  2. Monthly money expires monthly. $15 of January Uber Cash that you don't spend is gone on February 1.
  3. The Lyft credit dies September 30, 2027. It's a promo with a sunset date, not a permanent benefit. Don't build long-term card math on it.
  4. Uber Cash ≠ a statement credit. It lives in the Uber app as app credit. You have to open Uber and spend it there.
