Citi Prestige Benefits for Existing Cardholders: $250 Travel Credit + 4th Night Free
Citi Prestige Benefits for Existing Cardholders: $250 Travel Credit + 4th Night Free
First, the important part: you can't get this card anymore. Citi closed the Prestige to new applicants in July 2021, and it's still closed. This post is for the people who already have it — and if that's you, you're holding one of the best benefit sets still running.
What benefits does the Citi Prestige still offer?
The Citi Prestige — closed to new applicants since July 2021 — still offers a $250 annual travel credit, Fourth Night Free (up to 2 uses per calendar year), a Priority Pass Select membership, and a $120 Global Entry credit every four years. The annual fee is $495.
How much is the Citi Prestige travel credit?
The Citi Prestige travel credit is worth $250 per calendar year. It covers statement credits on travel purchases — airfare, hotels, even Uber. It is automatic with no enrollment and no activation. The credit posts 1–2 billing cycles after the purchase.
How to use it: Just put travel on the card. The one thing to know: this credit runs on the calendar year, not the card anniversary. Depending on when the anniversary falls, that means the credit can potentially be used twice within a single cardmember year — once in December, once in January. That's the double-dip, and it's legitimate: the terms allow it.
How does Citi Prestige Fourth Night Free work?
Citi Prestige Fourth Night Free gives back the average nightly rate (excluding taxes and fees) when 4 or more consecutive nights are booked, up to 2 uses per calendar year. Bookings must be made through the Citi Travel portal or concierge and must be prepaid.
How to use it: Plan the longer hotel stays through the Citi Travel portal. Two uses a year at, say, $250 a night is $500 back — the single most valuable perk on this card for anyone who takes real trips.
The tradeoff to know: the portal is now powered by Booking.com, and bookings through it generally don't earn hotel loyalty points. You're trading points for a free night. Do the math on each stay.
Does the Citi Prestige include Priority Pass?
Yes. The Citi Prestige includes a Priority Pass Select membership for you plus up to 2 guests — and this version includes Priority Pass restaurants and spas, which most cards' versions don't. You must enroll/activate it once.
How to use it: Enroll once in the Citi account, then the membership renews annually. The restaurant inclusion is genuinely rare — a lot of cards stripped that out years ago.
How often does the Citi Prestige Global Entry credit reset?
The Citi Prestige Global Entry/TSA PreCheck credit is worth $120 every four years. It posts as a statement credit when the application fee is charged to the card. Automatic.
How to use it: Charge the renewal here. And note the cycle: the Global Entry credit renews every 4 years. On October 1, 2024, Citi raised this from $100 every 5 years to $120 every 4 years — so older guides showing the old $100/5-year terms are stale.
Is the Citi Prestige worth the $495 annual fee?
Yes, for travelers: the $250 travel credit plus one Fourth Night Free use already covers the $495 fee for most travelers. Two uses and you're well ahead. This is why Prestige holders who kept the card tend to be fiercely loyal to it.
| Benefit | Value |
|---|---|
| Travel credit ($250) | $250 — automatic |
| Fourth Night Free (2×/yr) | $300–$1,000+ depending on your hotel rates |
| Priority Pass (with restaurants) | $400+ if you travel |
| Global Entry ($120/4yr) | ~$30/yr |
What are the Citi Prestige traps to watch out for?
The four Citi Prestige traps are the travel credit's posting delay, the portal requirement for Fourth Night Free, the 4-year Global Entry cycle, and the calendar-year travel credit window.
- The travel credit takes 1–2 billing cycles to post. Don't panic if it doesn't show up immediately — and don't assume it didn't work and spend twice.
- Fourth Night Free must be booked through Citi's portal, prepaid. Book direct with the hotel and you get nothing. And you give up hotel loyalty points on those stays.
- The Global Entry cycle is 4 years. It changed in October 2024 (was $100/5 years before that).
- Calendar year, not anniversary year, for the travel credit. Know which January-to-December window you're in — and remember the double-dip around your anniversary.
